People sometimes ask why I so often link the ideologies of western Hamas/Jihadist sympathizers with the extreme left, and there’s an important reason that I continue to stress this connection. People do not believe jihadist propaganda or see them as “victims of the west” out of thin air. This belief system is an outgrowth of radical leftist ideology, rooted in Marxism-Leninism and the since-matured ideological contours that have developed in its wake. These ideologies falsely divide humans into two comps by some classification (race, sex, gender, socio-economic status etc): the oppressed and the oppressor. The oppressed can do no wrong—even when the wrongs are unimaginable and make them the effective oppressor—and the oppressor can do no right—even when they are not at all oppressors (e.g. someone who is just “white”) by virtue of their status as “oppressor.” The leftist mind is trained to view the world through this binary of oppressed and oppressor, and all things can only be translated through it. This binary is the rudiment of dehumanization that has plagued our society, and dehumanization is the precursor to the engorged appetite for violence we’ve witnessed in recent times. Regrettably, this far leftism has metastasized across large swaths of the left, making it an alarmingly common mindset that allows for no exit points because of the strength of its conviction in being “good,” a veil that conceals its obvious depravity. That said, we cannot de-program our world by going after those who believe jihadist propaganda. They are just a symptom of the virus. It is the cancer of post-modernist ultra leftism—with its dangerous binaries that dehumanize people and distort reality—that must be challenged at the academic, institutional, entertainment, social, and cultural level. This is where we must concentrate our efforts, and this is why I continue to place emphasis at the root.
