The idea that we can only have war or peace with the regime in Iran is a false dilemma, both extremes ending only in catastrophe. War means direst catastrophe for the Iranian people; diplomacy means indirect castarophe for the Iranian people and the Middle East, by funneling billions into the coffers of a regime engaging in domestic and regional destabilization. There is, and always has been an alternative--power to the people of Iran. The Iranian people have been chomping at the bit to free themselves--and indeed, have sacrificed their lives in the thousands to do so--if only western governments and collaborators would stop financially empowering their killers. Just because deals and diplomacy are dressed in the language of rationality and harmony, it makes it no less violent. "Co-existence" with Nazis is a deliberate choice of violence, not a measure of moral superiority. It is, in fact, moral cowardice. War, on the other hand--where alternatives exist so this final resort need not be triggered--is just unconcealed violence. The road for prosperity in Iran, and by extension the Middle East and world, is clear. Diplomacy is violence, war is violence. The people of Iran are the impregnable weapon of freedom. For 46 years, the western world has made the wrong choice. For once, do the right thing.
