The relocation of 2.2 million people in Gaza is not a solution – and neither Egypt nor Jordan want that. However, the people in Gaza also cannot remain trapped in an inherited refugee status indefinitely. The Palestinians in Gaza must finally take their political destiny into their own hands. A political process must emerge from civil society, with the goal of establishing a lasting, peaceful coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis. The actors in such a process must unequivocally distance themselves from Hamas, render it obsolete, and recognize Israel’s right to exist.
