Elevated risk of first-time pulmonary hypertension among COVID-19 survivors: a 4.5-year longitudinal study 🚨Even a single mild COVID raises the risk of new pulmonary hypertension by 42%, and the threat lasts at least 4.5 years( = LongC0vid phenotype)! ➡️A Large and important retrospective cohort study from the Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY, USA) (1 March 2020 to 17 August 2024). ➡️Study conclusion: “SARS-CoV-2 infection, regardless of hospitalisation status, is independently associated with increased risk of new-onset pulmonary hypertension(PH). Hospitalised COVID-19 patients with new PH are at higher risk of downstream heart failure, CKD, and all-cause mortality compared to COVID-negative controls. These findings underscore the importance of ongoing cardiopulmonary monitoring in COVID-19 survivors to enable early identification and treatment of PH.” ‼️So, AGAIN, the virus “leaves”, the vascular damage does not. Every COVID survivor now carries a documented, long-term risk of pulmonary hypertension that demands surveillance.
