This is fundamental, not just in Washington but more importantly in Gaza. There is nothing any of you can do for Gaza or for Palestinians generally that Hamas won't undo. You're trying, you're resisting this simple fact, and that's noble. But Hamas won't change, not the idea and not the organization. And so this basic self-made Palestinian trap can't be disarmed and can't be ignored. It can only be faced head-on and defeated. Without Hamas, both the idea and the organization, hundreds of terror attacks would never have shattered the Israeli left, Palestinian civil war would not have divided Palestinian politics and your efforts to pressure Israel wouldn't be countered in the Israeli mind by Hamas's promise to murder them. There is nothing you can do for Palestinians that Hamas won't undo. Until you grasp that, this is all just howling into the wind.
