Hezbollah spent 12 months demolishing Israeli towns because the “fronts were united.” It decided, without asking the Lebanese, that Lebanon would take part in the Gaza war. Israel, via American negotiators, begged them to stop. America begged, France begged, Lebanese Christian leaders begged. And still, the demolition of Israeli towns continued. So now we have to stop them. You know that, dear Lebanese. You’ve known it for 12 months. You’ve been terrified of this outcome. But you’re also helpless to turn Hezbollah from its folly and allegiance to a cruel foreign empire. So now we have to stop them. And as at every other point over the last 12 months, Hezbollah will decide how long this goes and how bloody it gets. I write those words with trembling hands. I have a brother in this war. But we actually have to stop them.
