For 12 long months, Lebanon agreed to serve as a willing staging ground for a war against us that demolished towns and displaced tens of thousands. Or at least a staging ground too cowardly to publicly oppose the use of its territory for that war. In that cowardly sense, Lebanon is innocent. But the fact that Lebanon had no say in Hezbollah’s decisions only increases my responsibility and duty to stop them myself. A state cannot choose to put its sovereignty and integrity on pause when convenient and then claim that the victims of its cowardice must respect its sovereignty and integrity when they try to solve the problem themselves. Hezbollah is the great enemy of Lebanese integrity and cohesion. And there’s not a single Lebanese leader or citizen who doesn’t know it. And that makes every attempt to pretend otherwise one more signal that the kowtowing to Hezbollah continues even now, and thus one more data point in the Israeli case for continuing to go after Hezbollah ourselves. https://bird.makeup/@amanpour/1844075662103171232
