The Star of David is on the Leningrad Codex, the oldest surviving complete Hebrew Bible, published in 1108. And on artifacts from the 1300s. It was the major Jewish symbol of the community of Prague in the 1600s. It was not invented by the Zionists, you dolts. It’s really astonishing that antisemites think that they can retell our story however they see fit, that by taking control of our story, they can take control of us and our fate. It was always thus, it always fails, and they always try again. For the small handful out there convinced by this line of reasoning according to which the major symbols of a religion or a people can be delegitimized by that people’s misdeeds, I await your public rejection of Islam’s crescent moon, a major symbol of Islam only since the Ottomans - a symbol, at first, of Islamic imperialism as much as of Islamic faith. Why, by this logic, should the crescent moon be allowed in polite company after Islamic empires and groups killed, forcibly converted and systematically destroyed and oppressed many, many orders of magnitude more than Jews ever did, including the complete ethnic cleansing of all Jews from the Arab world during my parents’ lifetime and the near-complete cleansing of Christians from Syria just in the last decade. If that’s a racist argument - and it is, because there is as much good in the vastness of Islam as there has been evil, as in every human society and culture - then it is antisemitism to make this argument for the Jews. And antisemitism, these people keep proving, is the only bigotry you can still actively advocate for on the Western left. https://bird.makeup/@imrobertmine/1852306496018895163
