This isn’t fair. It isn’t fair to have the encampment kids face real people living real lives. They’re totally unprepared for a lived reality that isn’t morality-LARPing. I’m not kidding, I’m not being sarcastic or mean. The adults around them tell them they know everything they need to know, that moral feelings are more important than humility, curiosity or deep knowledge. It isn’t fair to raise them that way and then put them on stage with real people telling big, messy, complicated truths.
