Gee, Ireland, it must suck to have “outside agendas write your story” to demonize you in the service of present day loyalties and ideologies. I can’t imagine what that feels like. And yet, despite all this, the Irish were still officially neutral against Hitler, still offered official condolences upon his death, some Irish leaders were still openly skeptical about Nazi crimes, and huge swaths of today’s Irish population aren’t just worried about civilians in Gaza, they actively cheer on Hamas. Outsiders don’t always tell Ireland’s story in all its nuance - and the Irish have thrilled to the new antisemitism. Both, alas, are true.
