Khalil, respectfully, how did you miss this? The next step in your awakening to the fact that so many “supporters” of Palestinians are more interested in the destruction of Israelis than the liberation of Palestinians is the realization that this is one of the major factors in the continuing failure of the Palestinian cause. I’m not mocking. If you’re seriously paying attention to these people, you’ll never again not see it. And if you now read your history with this in mind, you’ll understand that history a lot better — how often Palestinians were betrayed by those who took on their cause just to advance their own political or religious position or identity, how much of the folly and the catastrophes that beset the Palestinian national movement flows from these “supporters” who always hungered for ever more Palestinian sacrifices. You don’t have to exonerate any Israeli actions to see it. These supporters are not, at the last, allies of Palestinians. The Palestinians’ role in this ideological narrative is to sacrifice eternally for their supporters’ political and emotional satisfaction. Even now, and perhaps especially now, the only Palestinian future worth having lies on the other side of a radical change in how Palestinians understand and relate to Israelis. This was always true; it is now even more so.
