I’m not “woke hating.” I’m honestly asking. According to Harvard’s website, federal funding is also used to support IT for social science research, grants for early career awards to junior faculty, and research development assistance, which is basically help for researchers to find more money elsewhere. That seems to me to raise an obvious question. I’m not saying the money is spent on bad things, but even leaving aside the antisemitism issue and all the culture wars, why should taxpayers, many of whom are not wealthy, be asked to help the wealthiest university in America find more money? Is there some specific research that for some reason cannot be funded except through federal deficit spending? Sure, maybe. Fundamental research is sometimes hard to sell to the market. But isn’t that what Harvard’s $53 billion endowment is for? I mean, Harvard has one administrative staff position for every three students. It’s a crazy rich university. And the US federal deficit in the last fiscal year was $1.8 trillion. Taxpayers spent $882 billion just in servicing America’s debt last year. And I didn’t even suggest to cut the spending. I suggested moving it from the single wealthiest university in America to community colleges that serve the poorest people in America. Do you really have to be “woke hating” to ask this question? https://bird.makeup/@chrisforlan81/1907340256438886513
