I will never understand the right-wing American oleh who comes to Israel, experiences this instinctively conservative, safe and, yes, well-armed society, with its large, tight-knit families, strong religious ties, its secular left that has more children and more explicit patriotism and higher military service rates than pretty much any group of Western conservatives -- and concludes that Israelis have something to learn from the dysfunctional American right. I truly don't get it.
