The Irish are genuinely surprised that Hezbollah isn’t popular everywhere.

A few people have asked me how Kneecap thought they could don the Hezbollah flag and scream ‘up Hamas, up Hezbollah’ at concerts without facing repercussions. Well, simply because there are no repercussions here. It is completely normalised. Most Irish people are in a cocoon where support for terrorism is lauded by the extreme and rationalised by the ‘decent’. They simply cannot conceive of a reality whereby it is met with profound disgust and material consequences. Kneecap were not expecting this backlash because it never would have happened in Ireland. Indeed, I can only imagine the deep shock they feel that it has.
