The Jews are always "uniquely evil." Paradigmatically evil. Whatever the antisemite thinks is evil they find encapsulated in the Jews. There are worse conflicts underway today, right now and close by, and with worse outcomes. There's also an undeniable shitstorm of obvious debunked lies aimed at Israel at all times ("14,000 children starving to death in 48 hours" was uttered by the UN relief chief, reached over 4 billion social media impressions in 24 hours, and was a total fiction) - and even knowing all this, they still allow themselves to talk about the Jews of Israel as a "uniquely evil society." Half of Israelis support temporarily withholding aid not because they want Gazans to starve. They support withholding aid because they believe (a) that the world is lying about Gazan starvation, because it constantly does so (see above), (b) Hamas always manages to take control of that aid, enabling it to continue fighting, and (c) a temporary withholding of aid is actually succeeding in turning Gazans against Hamas, which might actually end the war. Witness the growing protests. Israelis are manifestly and undeniably correct on all three counts. Which sucks if you're still desperate for Hamas to win this war. My own view, which I've expressed at every opportunity, including to Israeli leaders, is that I'm completely opposed to withholding the aid. The international community's endless lies about starvation over the past 20 months - the UN, the journalists, the activists, the proud antisemites, the whole lot - don't mean that Gaza doesn't now actually and authentically face real hunger in the coming days and weeks. The whole world lied until now, but it isn't a lie this time. Sometimes things are complicated that way. And now the aid must flow. And yet, Israelis' bitter frustration - with the world, with the war, with the moral preening that keeps Hamas in power, oppressive and murderous - does not make them a "uniquely evil society." And anyone claiming that is identical to every antisemite throughout history who chose to project all the great evils of human existence and all the anxieties of their weird little ideologies onto the Jews.
