Friends, there will always be those who look at the oppressors of a half-dozen nations, the drivers of the Syria genocide and demolishers of Lebanon and Yemen, the tyrants who keep their own people in chains, the non-Arab regime about whom Arabs joke that they are “willing to fight Israel to the last Arab” - and clutch their pearls about whether these military men were asleep when they died. These military men whose missiles usually hit us in the middle of the night, waking up hundreds of thousands of our children. Yes, they are cowards, no matter what hour of the day they die. And in the West, even greater cowards run defense for them. Those who live out their inane morality plays on our backs, who check imagined skin tone before deciding who has the moral high ground, these special new orientalists living fake social-media lives in which our existence and experience is reduced to their moral emotions. Laugh at them, enjoy their vapid moralizing, their willful ignorance. And then mute them. We are living real lives with everything at stake. They are not the story. They have so little story, in fact, that they must build one on us. הכלבים נובחים. השיירה עוברת.

Killing someone in their bed while they sleep and calling them a coward. Ok.
