It’s one thing to raise complaints about your workplace, it’s another to cite your shop owner’s identity as the problem. Employees at the Detroit Institute of Bagels claimed that the new owner, Philip Kafka, being Israeli was a reason for their quitting, accusing him of “straight up colonizing” Detroit. One ex-employee wrote on Reddit: “He’s practicing: exploiting Detroit so he can go do illegal s**t in Palestine.” Xenophobia is NEVER ok. If you replace “Jew” or “Israeli” with any other minority in your statement, and it sounds racist and xenophobic, it’s because it probably is.
