Israel made the right choice to bring the hostages home in November and should do so again, if given the option. But when you omit key context for WHY Israeli negotiators have made certain concessions and not others, you refuse to see the risk involved in this decision. A new NYT article faults Israel for wanting to actually check Gazans returning north for weapons (instead of the hopes and prayers method). It also faults Israel with wanting to maintain security control of Philadelphi, the border with Egypt. Could that have something to do with the massive smuggling tunnels Israel has uncovered there? Most of which were found in the time between hostage deal frameworks (May 27 and July 27)? I personally think Israel should take a deal to release the hostages. Babies' lives are on the line. But when you ignore the genuine security risks, you tell us what we already know: You didn’t care about our safety on October 7th, or any day since.
