Today is the first day of Sukkot, a weeklong agricultural festival Jews mark by eating outside in huts called sukkot. Sukkot are supposed to be temporary shelters. Yet many of the sukkot of Israel’s north and south have been standing for a year. Why? Because their owners were killed, kidnapped, or evacuated on October 7th. The calendar moves on, but our hearts are still frozen in that day 💔
