Amit Soussana, 40, became one of the first released hostages to speak out about the physical, sexual, and psychological violence she endured in Hamas captivity. Amit was at home sick with a fever when multiple terrorists broke into her home and dragged her into Gaza. In an interview with the New York Times, Amit recounted her experience as a hostage being chained up, all alone in a dark children’s bedroom. She was forced at gunpoint to commit sexual acts for her captor. When Amit resisted, he resorted to more physical violence. It is sickening to imagine what Amit had to bear. To think there are still 13 women in captivity who are suffering the same fate is gut-wrenching. Violence of all kinds against women must be strongly condemned. Always. On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and beyond. For all women, including Israelis and Jews. No woman should ever have to experience the abuse that Amit, the women attacked on October 7th, and the remaining hostages have suffered. We must speak up against this violence and continue to share their stories.
