On Hanukah, we celebrate the miracle of the oil: when the Jews returned to the Holy Temple, they found it desecrated by the Greeks. They wanted to rekindle the holy lamps, but there was only enough oil for one night, and it would take 8 days to prepare more oil. Miraculously, the small amount of oil lasted for 8 nights. The miracle of Hanukah isn’t just about survival, but of the survival of Jewish culture against those who strive to destroy it by force. As Jewish people once again face destructive forces in Israel and around the world, it’s important to remember we are fighting for our right not just to live, but to live as proud Jews 🕎
