After implying strongly that “Israelis are capable of eating human flesh,” UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has once again ridiculed herself by calling on medical professionals to cut ties with Israel. Setting aside the fact that Albanese has not once condemned Hamas for using Palestinian hospitals as operational bases, her proposed solution to the current healthcare crisis in Gaza seems to involve making healthcare equally challenging in Israel. How does boycotting Israel in the medical field improve the situation? How does that help anyone? Israel is, in fact, one of the leading nations in medical advancements. Severing ties with its hospitals and staff would have detrimental effects worldwide, not to mention on the Palestinians themselves. Since the start of the conflict, Israel has facilitated the setup of 14 field hospitals in Gaza, allowed the entry of 2,706 trucks carrying 26,987 tons of medical supplies for distribution, provided vaccines to prevent disease outbreaks, and enabled the rotation of international medical teams in the Gaza Strip. Boycotting Israel’s medical sector would only undermine efforts to assist Palestinians—a goal Albanese seems uninterested in pursuing. Instead of actually helping, she would rather tweet disgusting, outdated blood libels such as “Israel is capable of eating human flesh.”
