Following Assad’s fall, the number of Druze in the Golan Heights requesting Israeli citizenship is skyrocketing. From 10% in 2000, nearly 20% of the Golan Druze community now holds Israeli citizenship. With the fear of retribution from the Syrian regime dissipating, many are now free to choose their future. And many are choosing to become Israelis. The shift was underscored by the tragic killing of 12 Druze children by a Hezbollah rocket. The outpouring of solidarity from Israelis—recognizing our shared vulnerability of minorities in the region—was a powerful reminder of the bonds that unite us. This is a pivotal moment, moving us closer to a region where diverse identities can coexist, rather than clash.
