Actor Adrien Brody, accepting his Golden Globe for his depiction of an immigrant Holocaust survivor in the recent film “The Brutalist:" "The character’s journey is very reminiscent of my mother’s and my ancestral journey of fleeing the horrors of war and coming to this great country, and you know, I owe so much to my mother, my grandparents for their sacrifice. And although I do not know how to fully express all the challenge that you have faced and experienced and the many people who have struggled to immigrate to this country, I hope that this work stands to lift you up and to give you a voice.” In the past Brody won an Oscar for his performance in “The Pianist,” which tells the story of a Polish Jewish pianist who survives the Holocaust and the Warsaw Ghetto. Brody is in fact the son of a Polish Jewish father and a Hungarian mother, who immigrated to the United States. He was presented with the award by Israeli movie star Gal Gadot, who hosted the Golden Globes show. At these times of rising antisemitism, depictions of Jews and the lasting impacts of the traumas we have faced are all the more important. Kol hakavod and congratulations to Mr. Brody on his win 🏆
