"I have to go to Emily, she’s really scared." The family of twin brothers Gali and Ziv Berman, aged 27, who were abducted on October 7th, 2023, from their home in Kfar Aza, has shared a heart-wrenching recording of the last phone call Gali made to his mother. In the call, despite the chaos unfolding around him—gunshots echoing through the village—Gali made a promise. His mother's warnings couldn’t dissuade him. "I have to go to Emily," he said. "She’s really scared." Emily Damari, 28, had just been freed after 471 days in captivity, and Gali, ever the loyal friend, knew he couldn’t leave her in danger. He promised his mother he’d take a knife with him and rushed out to Emily’s home under fire. As of now, Gali and Ziv remain in the hands of Hamas. Their story is a testament to the courage of those who refuse to leave their loved ones behind, even when it means, tragically, endangering oneself.
