The next hostages expected to be released include seven aged 50+, ten sick and wounded—including Hisham al-Sayed and Avraham Mengistu, who have been held for a decade—and Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir Bibas. While we do not know the fates of individual hostages, we know some will not return alive. There will be joy, but there will also be grief. There will be embraces, but there will also be burials. As these families are reunited and face unbearable loss, Israel will experience a whirlwind of emotions—joy, sorrow, relief, and anguish. This is a reminder that all of those feelings are valid. The coming weeks will be different from the previous releases, and it’s important to allow ourselves to feel, to grieve, and to heal in whatever way we need. Be kind to yourself. Be gentle with the families. And keep holding onto hope.
