Jean and Jeanne Philippeau, a French couple, risked their lives during WWII to save three Jewish children by hiding them: Arlette Testyler-Reimann, her sister Madeleine, and Simon Windland. The municipality of Vendôme had originally planned a ceremony to honor them on May 28, 2025, but backed out, citing a “complicated geopolitical context that stirs particular sensitivities within our communities.” Antisemitism in France is now so severe that the French can’t even honor their own citizens — non-Jews — who risked everything to save children. How despicable. Mr. and Mrs. Philippeau had more courage in their little finger than the entire Vendôme town hall staff put together.
