They symbolize independence. Freedom also expressed itself for me in the ability to create again, to work with my hands like I did before everything happened.” Yet, he added, his freedom isn’t complete: “I also demand freedom for all the kidnapped who are still in captivity. There is no independence without the kidnapped at home.” What a miracle that hostages have returned and are creating beautiful art. And what an utter tragedy that their loved ones and the remaining hostages aren’t here to see it.
