Neve Shalom, a village jointly founded by Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel to promote peace and understanding, was one of the communities evacuated from the fires. Its residents were welcomed to Moshav Tal Shahar by hundreds of families volunteering to provide shelter, accommodation, and endless platters of food. The name "Neve Shalom" comes from the biblical verse: “My people shall dwell in an oasis of peace” (Isaiah 32:18). Even amid the fires, Israelis from all walks of life come together to support one another and stand united. The fires may have cancelled official Yom Ha'atzmaut celebrations, but the love and support Israelis are responding with right now is the true embodiment of this holiday. 💜🇮🇱
