“Jerusalem of gold And of copper, and of light Behold I am a violin for all your songs.” On May 15th, 1967, Shuli Natan performed Naomi Shemer’s Yerushalayim Shel Zahav for the first time at a song festival in West Jerusalem. People who attended the festival describe that moment as one of the most defining moments of their lives. The medley longing for Jerusalem, the essence of our entire Jewish history, resonated with Israelis in such a profound and touching way. Less than a month later, in June 1967, the old city was reclaimed during the 6 Six-Day War, and our longing for Jerusalem finally lived within it once again. Happy Yom Yerushalayim 💛
