As if being nearly burned alive for peacefully marching for hostages wasn’t horrifying enough, now even listening to a song in Hebrew in your car can get you killed. Stefan Hensel, Hamburg’s Commissioner for Combating Antisemitism, was driving home after picking up his young daughter when he decided to play the popular Israeli song “Tamid Ohev Oti” in the car. At a red light, the driver next to him heard the music and asked Hensel to roll down his window. He then began shouting, calling him a “baby killer” and a “dirty Israeli.” When the light turned green, the man started tailing Hensel, trying to force his car off the road, never mind the child in the back seat. Thankfully, Hensel spotted a police patrol and flagged them down. Even with officers present, the man continued to scream threats and antisemitic slurs. He wanted to kill a father and his child just for playing a Hebrew song. When will the world finally speak up? I won’t wait for a child to die over a song before speaking out against pure antisemitism. And I sincerely hope you won’t either.
