The Islamic Republic of Iran spent years building an extensive network of proxies, infiltrating countries across the Middle East. But when Iran itself came under attack and called on its proxies to join the fight, none answered the call. The long-standing Iranian fantasy of a coordinated assault on Israel — by Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, Iraqi and Syrian militias, and the Houthis — never materialized. It likely never will. Hezbollah refused to join. The Houthis, despite months of threats, fired just two missiles. The Iraqi and Syrian militias also declined to engage. The tentacles have been severed. Now the head stands alone: battered, isolated, and exposed.
