People say Zohran Mamdani won the Jewish vote in NYC—but that’s not true…at all. He won maybe 2% of Jewish votes. He earned support from about 20% of Jewish-Democrats voters. Given that Jewish Democrats make up roughly 14–16% of the primary electorate, that’s means just 2.8–3.2% of total primary voters for Zohran were Jews. Zoom out further: NYC is home to about 1.1 million Jewish people — so Mamdani pulled support from around 2% of all Jews in the city. And the voting patterns tell the whole story. Look at Borough Park (+69 for Cuomo), Midwood (+54), and Sheepshead Bay (+31) —neighborhoods with large Orthodox communities that have been hit hard by rising hate crimes. Mamdani didn’t just lose these areas. They overwhelmingly rejected him. I’m seeing real fear in our community. Jewish New Yorkers are worried, and I feel that too, for my friends and family. That’s why this matters. If Mamdani intends to lead all of New York City, this is a trust gap he can’t ignore— especially at a time when antisemitism is at record highs. My sincere hope is that he rises to the moment and earns the trust of the community that didn’t support him. But given his campaign rhetoric, leaning into anti-Jewish dog whistles to appeal to wealthy, white progressives— I’m genuinely concerned. That kind of messaging has already left many Jewish New Yorkers feeling less safe. If Mamdani truly wants to be a mayor for everyone, he has to prove to us that he wants to make Jews — like other minorities in the city— safe. And we will hold him to it.
