After months of recovery, Romi Gonen, survivor of Hamas captivity, shares a powerful update: I’ve been discharged from the hospital! I’ve been in Israel for almost half a year. I’ve spent almost five months in the hospital. Today, I’m being discharged and taking another step toward my freedom. On 7.10 I was injured during combat in the Gaza Strip. On 10.7 I was discharged from the hospital after a period that simply wasn’t easy. To suffer pain, undergo surgeries, get up and fall down again and again. Sadly, I’m being discharged with the knowledge that I’ll be returning soon, for my third surgery. I felt I needed freedom and quiet. I felt I had to know what it truly means to be free. Not limited by anything. Just doing what I want. Israel has been with me every moment, whether it was friends visiting or people who came to give lectures or volunteer with their dogs to bring a smile to our faces. Thank you all— it’s truly overwhelming and emotional. So now this moment has arrived, and with it a mix of sadness and happiness. The hostages are still not here, and my heart is with them in Gaza. It’s hard to grasp that some moments of joy or hope we’re experiencing here are happening while they are still there, and their time is frozen. I pray we’ll be reunited soon with all of them. With love and happiness, without worry and uncertainty. Because we deserve that, Each and every one of us. Am Israel Chai and may we soon hear good news! 🎗️
