“No Zionist is safe here.” Last night in Athens, a new kosher restaurant was vandalized by a violent mob. Exactly 12 minutes after the restaurant reopened following the end of Shabbat, a group of Free Palestine “protesters” stormed in, threw flyers, and spray-painted anti-Israel and hateful slogans on the walls, including: “No Zionist is safe here.” As they vandalized the restaurant, they shouted: “Go back to Israel,” and “Stop killing babies.” An employee, frightened by the mob, tried to leave but was told: “Stay there if you don’t want to be injured.” The restaurant owner expressed regret that although police were nearby, it took them 15 minutes to respond, and when they did, they took no action. The employees, none of whom are Israeli, were left shaken. They had never experienced this level of hate. Vandalizing a kosher restaurant, intimidating its staff, burning synagogues, or protesting outside Jewish schools has NOTHING to do with Israel, and everything to do with being Jewish. It’s time for the world to understand that.
