Middle Eastern sentiment as reflected via caricature. The cartoonist is Syrian-Kurdish, so neither Arab nor Palestinian, but this is representative of what many in Gaza feel. Noam Bannet @aravimislam: Hamas Senior Officials Cut Off from Gaza This is a cartoon with a very critical message, mainly towards the Hamas leadership and its partners, while emphasizing the gap between the reality of the leadership and the suffering of the Palestinian people. On the left side of the cartoon, you can see three Hamas senior officials who do not currently live in the Gaza Strip - Khalil Hayya, Khaled Mishaal, Osama Hamdan. The three look full, calm, some are smiling - the atmosphere is prestigious and safe as they sit on luxurious chairs around a table laden with rich food. Behind them stand the flags of the Islamic Republic of Iran (external influence and political and diplomatic reliance), Palestine, and a flag with the Hamas symbol. On the right side, on the other hand, a large group of Palestinian citizens, mainly men and children, are seen, looking suffering and poor. Their faces are thin, tired, desperate. They stand in front of the ruins, probably of Gaza, with empty pots in their hands – symbolizing hunger, deprivation, dependence. Note the colors that appear dark and gray, emphasizing the difficult feeling. The cartoon points to a stark contrast between the Hamas leadership, which lives in prosperity and is supported by Iran, and the citizens in Gaza who suffer from hunger, destruction, and hardship. The image not only criticizes the policy, but also places direct responsibility for the suffering of the Palestinians on their leadership.
