The incident began when Hamas set up a checkpoint to prevent Gazans from reaching the compound. The checkpoint held for about an hour, after which the Gazans breached the checkpoint, shouting "F*** Hamas" 2. During the day, 8,000 family packages were distributed (= 462,000 meals). Towards the end of the day, about 100 people broke in. According to a source familiar with the details: This is a scenario that the Americans had trained for, as something thay could happen. 3. Upon the break-in, the Americans moved back as part of their training, fired into the air to disperse the crowd, and let the Gazans take the rest of the aid. 4.
