1. Whatever you think of US policy in this war, some things are clear: Washington failed to shorten the war, arrange an earlier Gaza or Lebanon ceasefire, or secure a deal to release most hostages. US also failed to deter Iran from attacking Israel. 2. US did provide Israel with very significant military aid & diplomatic support, which was crucial. But overall, US strategic handling of this major Mideast conflict wasn’t great. 3. This is unfortunate, as the war presented a unique opportunity to reassert American power & influence. US partly achieved this, but a better approach could have delivered much stronger results.

Feels like big decisions in the Middle East are on hold for the US election: Gaza/Lebanon ceasefire & Israel-Iran conflict. One way or another, there will likely be some major developments following November 5.
