Want video quality like @tobi, @dhh, or @jasonfried for around $2,000 less? I just went down this rabbit hole. After many orders and returns, here is my final setup. 1) A mirrorless camera They’re using the Sony FX30, which costs around $2,600. If you’re on a budget, a cheaper alternative is the Canon R50 V, which you can get for around $700. The camera alone isn’t enough. You’ll also need a lens. Lenses can be expensive, so I recommend getting the R50 V without a lens, since we’ll get the newer version of the lens that @dhh , @jasonfried , and @tobi use. Canon R50 V: https://www.canon.de/cameras/eos-r50v/ 2) A lens You’ll want the Sigma 15mm f/1.4. This lens lets much more light into the camera, helping you look good even without the best lighting. It also helps blur the background. Jason, DHH, and Tobi use the Sigma 16mm f/1.4, which has been discontinued. However, after a factory reset, I couldn’t use my camera because it demanded an SD card. So, just in case, get a cheap one.
