Fairly strongly disagree. Here’s a version of the employment-change-by-sector chart with skilled trades added in pink. The dashed line shows the BLS forecast for the boom in these jobs from the energy transition and data centres (they’re expected to grow by around 10% inside the next decade, vs 3% for all jobs). Yet that boom is basically invisible, because these occupations are simply far smaller than what they need to replace. 10% growth here means about 120k jobs added. That’s good! But manufacturing job losses are running at 7 million. And then you have the 3 million men (mainly non-college) currently working as drivers, with big threats looming on the horizon.
