Yesterday, Palestinian media reported that Israel killed Dr. Ahmed Talal al-Khudari, along with his sons and other family members, in an airstrike in Gaza City. However, it seems that the actual target of the attack was Khudari's son, Saeed, who acted as a money exchanger for Hamas funds, according to an IDF statement today. In 2023, Saeed was identified as part of a network of money exchangers who transferred Iranian funds from Gaza to terrorist groups in the West Bank. Furthermore, Saeed's brother, Hamed, held the same role before he was killed, presumably by Israel. I assess that identifying and neutralizing the entities involved in exchanging funds for terrorism will significantly impair the operational capabilities of Hamas and other armed groups, more so than eliminating foot soldiers or mid-level commanders.
