Since a whole bunch of people are losing it over this tweet, I'll explain it more fully: I don't care if Biden resigns from the presidency. All things considered, I think he probably should on the merits. All I was saying is that just because a president doesn't have the capacity to campaign or to serve for another term, that doesn't logically force the conclusion that he can't serve out what's remaining on his current term. Most of you pretending otherwise probably understand this point. But in case you didn't, the Trump campaign does NOT want Biden to withdraw from the race. This is obvious. Vance's (and LaCivitas') argument is clearly intended to make withdrawal politically and psychologically more difficult for Biden and the Democrats. That's the head fake. That's what's funny about a lot this stuff. The Trump team (and much of the right) has been insisting Biden is a basket case for over a year. But now that Biden's actual infirmity has become exposed (or worsened), a lot of them think it's outrageous that he might actually withdraw. They can't withdraw the "he's too old for another term" charge, but they kinda want everyone to believe he's good enough to finish this term. And, barring that, if he opts not to run, they want to make his unfitness an issue for Harris. Again, I said it was politically smart. It's just not a good faith argument. https://bird.makeup/@jonahdispatch/1814678268844368060
