Uk Intersex Peeps need to be at the centre of these discussions about bathroom bans. The atrocities that are medically and surgically performed on UK Intersex babies & toddlers without their consent or knowledge many find oit in adult hood they were sex changed as babies. Medical procedures and "normalisation" surgeries on children with intersex variations have historically been common in Australia, but the legal landscape is thankfully shifting rapidly, unlike in the UK. These medically deferrable, non-consensual surgeries carry severe risks—including permanent infertility, incontinence, and loss of sexual sensation. The Australian Capital Territory ACT (2023): passed the nation's first legislation to ban deferrable, irreversible medical procedures on intersex people without personal consent. In 2025, Victoria became the first state to pass landmark legislation protecting children born with variations in sex characteristics. These laws delay deferrable interventions until the person is old enough to make the decision for themselves and establish independent assessment panels to oversee proposed treatment plans. The Australian Medical Association (AMA) and the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) advocate for deferring all non-urgent procedures until the child is old enough to give informed consent. This why Australia was never at risk of having a similar decision as handed down in the Supreme Court of the UK. Unlike the UK, Australia formally recognises a third sex and gender category, commonly denoted by the marker "X" (standing for indeterminate, intersex, or unspecified). This recognition applies across federal identity documents and various state registries. In 2014, the High Court of Australia ruled unanimously in the Norrie case that the law recognises a person's sex can be non-specific, allowing for registration of a third sex classification. In a world first in 2013, the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 was amended to explicitly protect Australians from discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, and intersex status.
