The people closest to AI are making all of the same mistakes as the public health professionals who were closest to COVID. Taking a real risk and exaggerating it by orders of magnitude to, in part, justify the importance of their role as the people designated to stop it. Likewise, their hysterics and lack of proportion might ruin the reputation of their field for a long time.

Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.
