The news out of Israel in the last few days has been disorienting: On one side of the metaphorical split screen, tanks rolled into Gaza as Israel’s leaders expressed determination to release the remaining 59 hostages and defeat Hamas; on the other, demonstrations about democracy and rule of law blocked significant arteries. Post- and pre-Oct. 7 Israel are colliding, with potentially explosive results.
