Re @ElliotKaufman6's excellent point, I've always suspected there's a poitical correctness aspect to the western Israel obsession, ie given that conquest is so central to Arab history it is seen as a violation of Arab culture and history for them to ever lose any war to Jews, who are meant to be peaceful and submissive
