Dear Rachel Goldberg, You carry the name of the French mother who had a profound impact on my life in Paris, a story I often share. You also share the name of Jacob's wife, and my friends in Saudi Arabia and the UAE call me “Abu Raheel” (Father of Rachel) because I plan to name my first daughter Rachel, inshallah. I want you to know that many Arabs and Muslims who support peace with Israel are praying for you, for your remarkable son, and for all the innocent Israelis and Palestinians who have died in this tragic war started by Hamas terrorists. Behold! the Lord our God, the God of Israel, tests us with trials in this world. As a believer in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, I understand this deeply. I will continue to work with all my strength for peace between Arabs and Israelis, Muslims and Jews. I hope to honor Hersh's memory by striving for true peace in the near future, with God's help. Though you have lost your only son, know that we are here for you and for all other families who have lost loved ones in this conflict. God willing, Israel will prevail. I am deeply committed to the Hebrew Bible and not ashamed to say so. I believe in its teachings and will dedicate my life to studying it alongside archaeology. The God of Israel is alive, blessed is He, and I believe He created us to improve this world. With His help, we will make it a better place, honor your son’s memory, and keep him in our hearts. “Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, forever and ever. Amen and Amen.” — King David, Psalm 41. Love, Loay
