Some interesting details are emerging from Witkoff and Kushner’s talks in Kyiv. According to European Pravda, citing a source in the Élysée Palace, the Americans said that Russia may show a new willingness to negotiate after the State Duma elections. What exactly Russia would be prepared to negotiate remains unclear. More importantly, Ukraine, France, Germany and the UK will now spend the coming weeks working together on their own conditions for future negotiations with Russia, including security guarantees, Ukrainian territory and sanctions. Which is very important. Because negotiations cannot simply mean Americans listening to Putin’s terms in Moscow and then bringing them to Kyiv. Ukraine and Europe need to enter any new process with their own coordinated position and their own red lines. As for Russia suddenly becoming more interested in peace after its elections? I’ll believe it when we see something more substantial than another message delivered from the Kremlin. 🤷🏼♀️
