Nintendo of Europe's official 1998 German guide for Yoshi's Story depicts White Yoshi as being highly religious. He also states that his constant words of admonition of the other Yoshis' sinful behavior caused them to abandon him.

Apparently, I am the only Yoshi who lives faithfully to the word of the Lord. That is why I often have to give words of admonition to the others in the flock. They sometimes allow themselves to be tempted to do rather shameful things. Unfortunately, the others never listen to me; quite the opposite, they even hid me somewhere on the island. Used in these regions as a general greeting, instead of "good day". Likely used here to underscore the White Yoshi's religious nature. (2)In this guide, all Yoshis repeatedly refer to themselves as having fur. Current Nintendo materials state that Yoshis do not have fur.
