If Lindsay Graham really did get smoked in a Russian air strike, it's necessary for the US to cover it up. Not only is it embarrassing, but the US would be practically obliged to declare war on Russia, only everyone loathed Lindsay Graham so that would not be a popular war, and the inevitable climbdown would only make it more embarrassing, besides which everyone would then conclude that American politicians can be killed with impunity.
